Growing Our Business

DFL Unveils New Look

The year ahead promises to be an exciting one for all of us at De Francesca Law. As part of our growth initiative and a higher profile in the Danforth community, we recently unveiled our bold new lobby with signage to match, heightening our neighbourhood presence at Broadview and Danforth. DFL’s clients will now be greeted in a new reception area of fine Italian marble with plentiful natural light streaming in from the outside. Our fresh, airy space is both bright and welcoming to visitors, and perfectly showcases our growing visibility as a leading law firm in the community with a well-deserved reputation for quality client service and deep roots in the Danforth.

As we head into spring and summer of 2022, we hope you’ll have the opportunity to drop by to see us and experience for yourselves why we’re excited!

Being There for Our Clients in Changing Times

COVID-19 has meant great hardship for many in our community. Businesses that we love and care about have disappeared before our eyes, never to return. The pandemic has brought profound challenges for some as our clients strived to adapt to changing circumstances. It has demanded the best of us, shifting environmental conditions, regulatory issues, and pragmatism versus creative thinking have added up to us working hard to getting the desired results in situations fraught with uncertainty. Through it all, we’ve served our clients, succeeding in meeting their needs. And, above all, adapting well to changing circumstances, and getting the deals done to keep businesses on track, viable and healthy.

De Francesca Law stands behind our commitment to quality and our clients. We pride ourselves on knowing – really knowing – your business and doing whatever it takes to meet your needs by drawing upon our expertise, as well as our extensive network of industry relationships, to get results. Our multidisciplinary approach to client service – partnering with fellow lawyers and real estate financing experts – is what makes DFL different. It sets us apart from other law firms and ensures our success in helping you manage your businesses effectively.

De Francesca Law also continues to build its client service capability by specialization and geography for those with more distinctive requirements through the firm’s membership in the International Network of Boutique Law Firms (INBLF), a global network of leading boutique and independent law firms. Through INBLF, we’re able to access legal expertise in all practice areas with the personal attention and competitive pricing that you’ve come to expect from us. For details, please visit the DFL website.

De Francesca Law Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

Ryerson University Faculty of Law

DFL strongly believes in the importance of investing in the next generation of top legal talent in Ontario through our ongoing program of financial support with law schools in the province. We expanded the scope of our commitment in 2020 with the establishment of a new award at Ryerson University’s newly minted Lincoln Alexander Law School program. The inaugural De Francesca Law Award at Ryerson University will help support an outstanding student with a financial need in the school’s first year Property Law course, conditional on full-time enrolment in the JD program in the second year.

The Ryerson award builds on our history of financial support that was started at the University of Windsor’s School of Law (and my Alma Mater) back in 2008 with the De Francesca Real Estate Law Award. First given out in 2009, the award was intended to inspire students to consider careers in real estate law. Candidates needed to demonstrate financial need, be in satisfactory academic standing and registered in a real estate course to qualify. Since established, the award amount has grown in line with increases in tuition and standard of living of the time.

The De Francesca Real Estate Award is an important part of Windsor’s scholarships, awards and bursaries program. For students specializing in real estate, winning the award means prestige and the chance to connect with us at the firm and become familiar with the dynamics of real estate law. In the case of previous award-winner and law school alumnus Luca Vita, who graduated in 2021 and moved on to a big-name law firm in downtown Toronto, the award not only brought recognition for his efforts but also help fuel his passion for the law. "It showed me that I was on the right track," he says, "and inspired me to work that much harder.”"

Staff Updates

I’m pleased to announce two changes in our staff complement that strengthen our ranks and provide greater resources for us to serve our clients. Alicja Kachnicz has been promoted to the newly created position of senior law clerk and Bruno Esposito joins us as law clerk.

Alicja joined De Francesca Law back in 2014 with a strong background in administration and client service. She possesses in-depth knowledge of residential purchase, sales and refinancing, and mortgage transactions expertise, along with significant experience in commercial real estate and mortgage issues. She plays a critical role in the life of the firm and will continue to be a great asset to us in this new position.

I’m also pleased to welcome Bruno to our firm as law clerk. Bruno brings over nine years of experience with several boutique laws firms from across the GTA and has significant experience in corporate and real estate practices, as well as in the area of wills and estates.
