Keeping Our Focus

New Initiatives in 2022

Now into the second quarter of 2022, De Francesca Law continues along our long-term strategy to bolster our growing reputation as a law firm of choice for real estate as well as a growing portfolio of other legal services in the Danforth Community and, eventually, the GTA. With the office renovation now behind us, our new lobby and signage wall gives us enhanced visibility at Broadview and Danforth to welcome clients and visitors who drop by.

We’re very proud of our reputation as one of the Danforth’s leading real estate law firms. This year, we’ve taken steps to grow our capacity in this area by acquiring the Breglia and Breglia customer book, following their decision to close its doors. This transaction, which was completed at the end of last year, provides new momentum for DFL’s strategic growth and gives us new capacity to meet the growing needs of our clients in the months ahead.

Serving Our Clients

Living with COVID-19 has been difficult for everyone. For the past two years, we’ve had to dig deep and be more creative for our clients, helping you to adapt to changing realities and getting the desired results. In the process, we’ve taken on greater complexity and completed a greater number of transactions by introducing more streamlined processes to better manage deal flow while continuing to exceed client expectations. Servicing the high volume of transactions did present challenges, but I think the prize was the fact that we were successful in getting the results our clients wanted and we could strengthen our relationships as a result.

At DFL, we pride ourselves on always being there for our clients. I believe this is really who we are and what makes us a different kind of law firm. We truly value and prioritize our client relationships over all else. It is these special personal bonds that take us through the good times and give us the strength to make it through the tough periods that re more difficult. Now, with the worst of the pandemic behind us, we’ve gone back to emphasizing the “personal touch” with in-person meetings to sign documents and conduct business. And we’re focusing on the productive parts of our relationship that gets deals done and keeps your businesses strong, profitable and healthy.

DFL Awards and Bursaries

Ryerson University Faculty of Law

De Francesca Law is a strong believer in the future of law and education, and investing in the next generation of lawyers in Ontario through our program of financial support for selected law schools in the province. We started the DFL Awards and Bursaries Program in 2008 with our very successful De Francesca Real Estate Law Award at the University of Windsor Law School, to encourage students to follow careers in real estate law. In 2020, we built on this commitment with a new award at Lincoln Alexander Law School at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in Toronto. Eligible candidates for the award needed to show financial need, be in satisfactory academic standing and registered in the School’s first year Property Law course to qualify.

Toronto Metropolitan’s Lincoln Alexander Law School is a law school with a difference. Strongly committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, it follows a very hands-on approach to its legal education and includes a robust on-the-job placement component in the third year of study. Upon graduation, students are ready to dive into their legal careers immediately without having to article as part of their training. This year, the inaugural De Francesca Law Award was shared between the top three students completing the first year Property Law course – Sandeep Patel, Peter Krol and Tudor Gagea.

"Winning the award gives me great confidence as a law student," says Krol, "it also piqued my interest in real estate law and I’m now excited to pursue more courses and explore career opportunities in this field" For all the laureates, the De Francesca Law Award brought about the same effect: validating their hard work and effort, while serving as a powerful incentive to follow their respective interests in this area of the law in their futures.

Continuing Support for
SOS Children's Villages

SOS Children's Villages Canada

When a child loses everything, SOS Children’s Villages gives them a family and a home. We continue to be a proud supporter of SOS Children’s Villages, the international children’s charity that provides safe and nurturing homes to over 80,000 orphaned and abandoned children around the world. This year, we broadened our support to the SOS Village in Vari, Greece. Vari is the first SOS Village set up in Greece and is located about 12 kilometres from Athens. This is alongside our ongoing support of the SOS Village in Ondangwa in Northern Namibia in Africa, and the SOS Village Ostuni in southeastern Italy.

This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has made conditions really difficult, especially for the vulnerable in locations around the world. In particular, our thoughts go out to the children and their families struggling in Ukraine, where conflict and war are disrupting lives and tearing them apart. SOS Children’s Villages has been in Ukraine since 2003 and it’s now working to redouble its efforts to save lives, reduce suffering and restore dignity among the people there.
